Automotive Calibration Engineer - Vancouver

The position:
Vehicle applications role within Controls team. Responsible for implementation and tuning of hybrid vehicle control algorithms and complete vehicle calibration.
Responsible for ensuring vehicle behaviour meets customer’s performance and driveability expectations while complying with fuel economy and tail-pipe / EVAP emissions targets.
Some vehicle commissioning and troubleshooting activities will also be required.
Roles and Responsibilities
The roles and responsibilities of the Senior Applications Engineer shall include the following:
- Responsible for complete vehicle software calibration
- Responsible for ensuring vehicle software/ calibration meets customer driveability / performance expectations
- Ensure vehicle meets tail-pipe emissions and fuel economy targets
- Contributor to software algorithm design, particularly for vehicle energy management for best fuel economy / emissions
- Assist in vehicle commissioning activities, including debugging of complex electro-mechanical systems
Skills / Knowledge
- Knowledge of automotive mechanical systems, primarily engine and transmission design and theory of operation
- Understanding of gasoline engine control algorithms
- Knowledge of automatic transmission control
- Experience in an OEM vehicle calibration type role would be an asset
- Automotive product development cycle experience
- Knowledge of electrical motor and inverter design and theory of operation
- Understanding of battery chemistries used in hybrid / electric vehicle applications – i.e. NiMH, Li-ion
- Matlab / Simulink proficiency and auto-coding experience an asset
- Academic knowledge of advanced control theory
- Practical knowledge of electrical circuits and basic troubleshooting procedures
Education / Experience
- Engineering degree
- Vehicle calibration experience within an O.E.M. type environment would be considered an asset
- Clean driving record
