Energy Systems Engineer (Boston)
Reporting to VP of Engineering
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively seek possible energy system suppliers and evaluate them as a supplier from a technical and supply chain perspective.
- Manage suppliers technically in order to reduce risks in a way that will result in Azure having access to reliable automotive grade energy systems
- Actively participate in project meetings and sign off for the application of energy systems at a system level
- Work towards the project goals in a timely manner according to the latest project schedule. Communicate to the project leader at all times if any part of this schedule may not be met.
- Responsible for engineering oversight of specific projects as related to energy systems.
- Coordinate design reviews, FMEA’s, and engineering analysis for energy systems.
- Lead the design and integration of pilot production units and training of production staff.
- Direct the testing and documentation of project designs.
- Assist in the creation of BOMs for new products.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of energy systems like batteries and super-capacitors. Experience working not only at a cell level but at a full pack level is a must.
- Experience testing and qualifying energy systems with a goal of meeting automotive standards.
- Ability to represent the company at energy system related business events.
- Demonstrated ability to work on a fast-paced, deadline driven design engineering team.
- 3D CAD experience, Solidworks preferred but not required
- Ability to design test fixtures
- Ability to perform basic programming and setting up test systems for energy systems.
- Ability to analyze, research and solve problems using fundamental mechanical engineering practices. Experience with mechanical system design and integration, especially automotive, electromechanical and/or hybrid vehicle systems.
- General knowledge of automotive systems and subsystems required.
- Electronics packaging experience required.
- Design for Manufacturing experience a plus.
- Some reasonable amount of travel to suppliers and company sites are required.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- BSME/BSEE and 4-6 years experience minimum or equivalent education and experience. MSME preferred.
