Modeling and Simulation Engineer (Vancouver)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    TITLE: Modeling and Simulation Engineer

    SUPERVISOR: Controls Engineering Manager

    DEPARTMENT: Controls Engineering Group

    CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

DUTIES:

  • Modeling of conventional and hybrid vehicle powertrain architectures in Matlab Simulink/Stateflow environment
  • Optimization of hybrid powertrain architecture to meet fuel economy, emissions and performance targets
  • Development and tuning of energy management strategy through standard test cycle and real world drive cycle simulations
  • Clearly and concisely report on simulation results to supervisor and management
  • Work towards the project goals in a timely manner according to the latest project schedule. Communicate to the project leader at all times if any part of this schedule may not be met

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Aptitude and knowledge of automotive and mechanical systems
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink/Stateflow model creation
  • Knowledge and experience with the dynamic programming approach to powertrain architecture optimization will be beneficial
  • Experience with a software version control system such as CVS or ClearCase
  • Knowledge of the hardware level of controllers
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a fast-paced, deadline driven design engineering team
  • Ability to analyze/research and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • Ability to communicate concisely and accurately in English through both written and verbal mediums

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Minimum education requirement is the completion of a university Bachelor’s level engineering degree, a Master’s or PhD preferred
  • Must have knowledge of advanced controls theory
  • Two or more years of experience in an automotive related field is preferred
