Senior Structures Engineer - Vancouver
Reporting to Mechanical Engineering Team Leader
Position Summary:
- An automotive experienced structures engineer responsible for system analysis and delivery of sub-systems within the mechanical team.
- Complete FE analysis responsibility at the component and system level including stress/strain, modal behavior and correlation of vibration time histories to the model.
- Mentor to the mechanical team by drawing on automotive industry experience and best practice in component and sub-system design.
- Proactive, enthusiastic personality that must take full ownership of delivery to requirements and all issues related to that delivery.Essential
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analysis responsibility to include the following:
- Component and system stress/strain including mounting systems, shaft couplings, drivetrain parts and chassis frame rails.
- Modal/frequency simulation including iteration to meet stiffness targets.
- Correlation of experimental time-history vibration data to model.
- Specification of vibration damping systems to manage component response within acceptable limits.
- Creation of time-history profiles for shaker testing from PSD data.
- Establishment of load case standards for Azure ’s specific design and product requirements.
- Thermal modeling experience preferred. - Design and engineering responsibility for Hybrid vehicle to include one or more of the following:
- Sub-system mounting in vehicle. o Steering and braking assist systems.
- Application of gearboxes and automatic transmissions.
- Shafts & couplings for torque transmission.
- Thermal & fluid systems for cooling and heating. - Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Requirements capture including cross-functional needs
- DFMEA facilitation, creation and update
- Design for manufacture reviews
- Supplier management - Represent sub-systems in engineering and management reviews (report progress against key activities, identify risks/shortfalls and recommend resolutions)
- Set best practices for component and system design utilizing industry standard tools and techniques.
- Hands on approach required to support other engineers’ key tasks in times of peak workload.
Education/Certification:
Educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering subject with preferred post-graduate studies and/or research in the area of structural simulation and vibration. The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following experience.
Essential
- Well versed in standard automotive product development tools and techniques.
- A minimum of five years of FEA simulation experience in the automotive design arena with examples of correlating analysis with real world data.
- Proven history of delivery of vehicle systems from concept to launch (preferably in a powertrain environment) to include the specification of systems and components.
- Detailed knowledge of and experience in the derivation and application of GD&T, significant and critical characteristics to component drawings.
- Detailed experience in the use and correct application of the following tools and techniques:
- DFMEA
- DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly)
- Design for Service
- FE analysis for stress/strain/fatigue and/or thermal
- DVP
Preferred
- HEV/EV design and development experience/knowledge of main components.
- Experience in VA/VE or other cost management tools.
