AM General, a long-established contract vehicle manufacturer and services provider, will be responsible for final assembly of the Transit Connect Electric for the North American market from its Engineering and Product Development Center in Livonia, Michigan. The current production plan includes an initial quantity of vehicles to be built in late 2010 with full production scheduled to begin in April 2011. |

AZD is the Vehicle Modifier, completing the hybrid modification on the E-350 and E-450 commercial chassis. Ford, as the OEM of the incomplete commercial vehicles, provides AZD with assistance to facilitate the development of the hybrid electric powertrain.
In October of 2009, Ford and AZD began working on a collaborative agreement to deliver a pure battery-electric vehicle (BEV) powertrain for the Transit Connect in the U.S. and Canada. The extension of this collaboration into Europe for 2011 is the next step and the first time AZD will operate in the region. |
